Audio tuts has a recording tip on recording without a click track. I’m in the I-can’t-play-with-a-click-track camp. My producer and co-writer is great; he creates drum tracks with a drum machine to which that I can play. For loops or stock music, I just play to a feel, and then he cuts out the best part and creates loops in propellerhead recycle. When all else fails, there is always the Audio Quantize function. This functions allows you to correct the timing of audio performances. The Audio Quantize function works by conforming the out-of-time audio track to a set musical grid. Some programs allows you to conform out-of-time tracks to the timing of another track, but it’s always better to try get the timing right during the original performance—it helps with overall playing.
